John P. Pigott

John P. Pigott, MD, FACS, currently serves as Chief Innovations Officer/Strategic Business Development for ProMedica and ProMedica Innovations, where he works with thought leaders from across the health system to turn ideas into results that generate a measurable impact in the areas of life science technologies, patient outcomes, and new revenue streams. He is also a member of ProMedica’s executive strategy team. Dr. Pigott has designed, developed and implemented recognized and award winning medical innovations, specifically within the field of vascular surgery. He is the founder and Chief Science Officer for VentureMed Group and Infinity Angioplasty Balloon company, both medical device companies involved in the treatment of peripheral artery disease. He is the author of many articles and presentations, and holds numerous patents, primarily in the life sciences field.

Dr. Pigott is President of the Northwest Ohio Tech Fund II, a Board of Trustees Member for BioOhio, and a Board member of Kapios Health. He is also a former EY Regional Award and National Finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year, a national and international venture capitalist, and a lead developer in establishing the Northwest Ohio ESP and Tech Fund II through state of Ohio Third Frontier. He has helped to attract more than $50 million to Northwest Ohio, resulting in local job creation and economic development. He also serves as a consultant to numerous multinational medical device companies, conducts national and regional device training programs, and has participated in more than 50 clinical trials.

As a board-certified vascular surgeon at Jobst Vascular Institute (JVI) and ProMedica Toledo Hospital, Dr. Pigott serves as a faculty member of the ACGME-accredited Jobst Vascular Fellowship Program. He is also a clinical professor of surgery at the University of Toledo Medical Center. Dr. Pigott received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio, completed his surgical residency at Akron City Hospital, and completed his fellowship in vascular surgery at the Mayo Clinic.

Conquering the 5 Misconceptions that Hold Leaders Back (McGraw-Hill, 2018) – co-authored by Root CEO and President, Rich Berens – dives into the effective ways to engage and motivate employees at every level of the organization.

Jim is a frequent speaker on leadership alignment, strategy execution, employee engagement, business transformation, change management, and accelerated learning. He has spoken at TEDx BGSU, Tampa TEDx, and Conference Board events, and has given keynote speeches for many organizations throughout the world. He contributes regularly to business publications, including Inc. and Switch & Shift, where he was ranked on the Top 75 List of Human Business Champions.

He lives in Sylvania, OH, with his wife, Michelle. They have three children, Brad, Brooke, and Blake, and five grandchildren. When he’s not traveling the globe visiting clients, he enjoys relaxing with his family at their lake cottage, golfing, fishing, sailing, photography, and attending Jimmy Buffett concerts.

 

Randy Oostra

Randy Oostra is the president and chief executive officer of ProMedica, overseeing the not-for-profit mission-based, integrated healthcare organization headquartered in Toledo, Ohio. Prior to this role, he served as president and chief operating officer.

Oostra is regarded as one of the nation’s top leaders in health care and has earned a spot on several prestigious listings, which include Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare and one of Becker's Healthcare's 100 great Leaders in Healthcare. He also received American Heart Association’s Pulse of Toledo Award in 2018. He has a strong commitment to the healthcare industry and community and serves on the board of trustees of the following national organizations: Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), American Hospital Association, Health Research and Educational Trust and The Root Cause Coalition, which ProMedica founded.

He serves on the board of trustees for his alma mater, Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, and the following organizations in northwest Ohio: Regional Growth Partnership, Toledo Museum of Art, Downtown Development Corporation, and Toledo Symphony as the chair. Randy is also a member of the Ohio and Michigan Hospital Associations and a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Oostra holds a doctorate in management from Case Western Reserve University, a master’s degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Minnesota, a master’s degree in Management from the University of Wisconsin, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Northwestern College.

Dr. Reinard completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base neurosurgery under Johnny Delashaw, MD, at the Swedish Neurological Institute, Seattle, WA, and completed his residency in neurological surgery at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI. He completed an enfolded pediatric neurosurgery rotation at Children's Hospital in Boston, Boston, MA. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI.

Chrys Peterson

Chrys Peterson

For 20 years, Chrys Peterson was the face of WTOL news, anchoring the station’s 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00 evening newscasts. During her broadcasting career, Chrys earned six Emmy Awards and four coveted Edward R. Murrow awards for her storytelling. She was inducted into the Associated Press Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2014.

In 2014, Chrys left television news to launch her company, Chrys Peterson Consulting. Drawing on her master’s degree in organizational leadership and 32 years of news and community leadership experience, she facilitates employee training programs at ProMedica Health System and other area companies and nonprofit organizations. An engaging facilitator, Chrys is certified to teach a variety of programs that help individuals develop and thrive, and that help businesses achieve success through leadership, communication, teamwork, employee engagement, and ambassadorship.

Chrys is active in the community, serving as a board member for Lourdes University and Toledo Police Foundation, as president of the Press Club of Toledo, and—for the past 25 years—as Honorary Chair for the NW Ohio Komen Race for the Cure. She’s received numerous community awards recognizing her impact and commitment.

 

Monica Vijani

Monica Vijani

Monica Vajani currently serves as the Director of Strategic Partnerships at MATTER, a global health technology incubator and corporate innovation accelerator headquartered in Chicago. She is responsible for engaging with industry and health system stakeholders that can benefit from innovative solutions developed by MATTER startup companies. She has advised over 50 startup companies on their growth and sales strategies and serves as a guest judge in local pitch competitions. She is also passionate about pivoting the healthcare conversation towards prevention with the goal of radically improving patient outcomes.

Prior to MATTER, Monica spent a decade as cardiac medical device sales professional for Medtronic and Abbott. She has extensive experience building relationships with health systems and driving patient compliance through education, and grasping the complex economic factors involved in value based care. Monica holds a BS in biomedical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and an MBA from the Booth School of Business with concentrations in marketing, entrepreneurship and strategy.

Bill Sullivan is the author of Pleased to Meet Me: Genes, Germs, and the Curious Forces That Make Us Who We Are. Sullivan received his doctorate in cell and molecular biology from the University of Pennsylvania and is an award-winning professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, where he studies genetics and infectious disease. He has published dozens of papers in scientific journals and has written for Scientific American, Scientific American MIND, Salon.com, COSMOS, PLOS SciComm, A Science Enthusiast and more. He has been interviewed by CNN, the Wall Street Journal, the Indianapolis Star, “Science Fantastic With Dr. Michio Kaku,” “The Naked Scientists” and The Scientist.

Bill Shaw joined Ekso Bionics as its Chief Commercial Officer in May 2019. He brings more than 15 years of medical device sales and leadership experience to Ekso. Most recently, Mr. Shaw served as Global Vice President of Robotics at Zimmer Biomet. His diverse career pathway started in sports broadcasting, includes contributions in the startup space and multiple Fortune 500 companies. His various sales and leadership positions at Johnson & Johnson, Intuitive Surgical, Salesfore.com and Medtech Surgical demonstrate increasing levels of management and strategic influence. Mr. Shaw graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science.
